Learning about Life in Bellows Falls, Vermont: Hayslip ’21 at Chroma Technology Inc.

Mar 21, 2020

I have been in Bellows Falls, Vermont, at Chroma Technology, Inc., a company founded by Antioch alumnus Paul Millman, ’68.  To say that this has been an experience is an understatement. I have started to grow as a person. I have made some new friends and have learned to spread my wings and fly.

If anyone knows me, they know that I do not like change and this has been a major change for me.I am working on the Sales team. I have learned a lot about filters and what they do and don’t do. I have learned how to take things apart to see why they are not working and doing a lot of testing and making sure demo equipment is functioning properly.

I am even working on a little side project with two amazing application scientists. I am doing a microscopy project where I am taking photos of samples with different filter sets and comparing the two (one is old and one is a newer set) and then calculating the average signal to noise in the photos. It is all very fun and exciting to see.

I also get to go to San Diego for a Biophysical  Society convention that I am very excited about.

This has been a wonderful experience for me.

I Love Teaching: Morgan Hayslip ’21 at Mills Lawn Elementary School in Yellow Springs, Ohio

My experience at Mills Lawn Elementary School has by far been one of the best jobs that I have ever had.

I work with some very awesome 5th and 6th graders. They are just the most amazing individuals and the kindest children that I have ever met. It has been such a wonderful experience to be able to teach them new things that they can use in math and in other courses. They love to learn and they want to know what they are doing and are not doing right.

I hope that I have made an impact on their lives like they have mine.  I will miss them all so much when my co-op is over.  I hope to be able to continue tutoring these 5th and 6th graders when my co-op is over, and potentially pursue teaching after Antioch.
