Production Intern (video and social media)

Tasks & Responsibilities:

The student will have the following responsibilities: Edit existing documentary footage to create 1-2 minute shorts that can be posted on our website, Assist in developing a social media communications plan, Assist in documenting program activities (when of interest to the student), Manage SEMIS Facebook and Twitter sites, Provide feedback on the construction of our new website, Attend program Steering Committee meetings.

Qualifications:

Social media and communications, Video editing, Photography, Interpersonal communication skills.

Learning Opportunities:

The opportunity to have a substantive role in our organizations communications activities; Observing how an organization that is based on principles of social and ecological justice operates; Learning about the Detroit area and urban school change processes; Learning about teacher education and systems reform and how to both work within and fight against unjust structures; Learning about strength-based coalition building across boundaries of race, class, culture, and geography.

Additional Comments:

We are in dire need of someone to help us document what we do (we have a ton of quality documentary footage that needs to be edited), develop social media protocols, and help us partner with organizations like Antioch that share our vision of education–one that breaks down the walls between schools and communities. We also have a Youth Action Council that might need social media guidance. There’s lots, lots, more that she could get involved in with us.) All substantive work.
