Environmental Steward

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Depending on the time of year and the interest of the student, you could be doing many different things; from participating in controlled prairie and forest burns, to restoring native oak Savannah, to blazing trails (they are putting in $2 million of recreational sustainable trails this year) to managing cattle on 5500 acres with rotational grazing, to full time marketing, to eco-tourism….you name it. Lots of opportunity.

Qualifications:

Willingness to work hard and comfortable with being in a small town. Strong interest in ecology and environmental stewardship.

Learning Opportunities:

Ecological land management practices including working on controlled burns. This could be many things, depending on the interest of the student and the time of year. Hard core outdoor work to full time marketing.

Additional Comments:

Summer and Fall are when conservation work and seed harvesting begin. Winter work can be GIS data entry or marketing and grant research.
