Gastroenterology Clinical Intern

Tasks & Responsibilities:

The student will work with the director of endoscopy and the outpatient gastroenterology practice to improve systems for results reporting to referring physicians and patients. This will include helping to develop systems that will work with our new electronic medical record system. The student will be expected to attend all of the regular department of internal medicine and gastroenterology division’s teaching sessions, including those for the gastroenterology fellows; for example, medical grand rounds and the weekly gastroenterology conference series.

Qualifications:

This position will entail contact with patients and work in our clinical sites. The position will therefore require the ability to present ones’ self in a professional fashion to the patients, staff and physicians.

Learning Opportunities:

Our intention is for the student to fully participate in a variety of clinical and academic activities of the division. This will include some shadowing during procedures, rounds and clinics. This, in conjunction with the assigned work and conferences, should give the student an excellent understanding of the demands of current medical practice and the work and learning environment in a major academic medical center. The co-op job should be an excellent experience for any student who is contemplating a career in health care.
