Antioch College Farm

Farm Assistant

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Plant and start care

• Chicken, duck and lamb care

• Harvest, rinsing and weighing of produce

• Bed preparation

• Compost collection and management

• Other responsibilities that support the overall functioning of the Farm

Qualifications:

• Possess Gardening or farming experience • Have good time management skills • Be self-motivated and reliable • Work well with others • Enjoy physical work • Have enthusiasm for what’s happening on the farm & the farm mission

Learning Outcomes:

Student Educational Outcomes: Student Farm Assistants will learn how an organic farm operates, as well as the complexities of local food systems and ecological growing. Students will also learn: Sustainable and ecological methods for growing food, Compost pile management, Insect identification & life cycles, Organic pest management, Plant identification of edible, wild, medicinal, invasive, and culinary plants, Season extension methods, Plant & animal life cycles, Public relations & time management skills

Additional Comments:

The Antioch Farm Assistant will assist the Farm Manager and Crew Leaders in the operation of the Antioch Farm. Must be available weekends and willing to work outside in all weather. Gardening or farming experience preferred but not required.
